Exclusive: Tammy Abraham Opens Up About Reece James' Desire for His Chelsea Comeback
Roma striker Tammy Abraham has recently revealed the persistent messages he's been receiving from his former teammate Reece James, expressing a strong desire for him to return to Chelsea. Abraham is wrapping up his second season in Serie A and has made a name for himself as one of the league's top strikers.
The decision to move abroad surprised many, as Abraham had fallen out of favor under former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel in 2021. This marked the end of his tenure at Stamford Bridge, leading him to boldly move to the Stadio Olimpico.
In an exclusive interview with TMW, the 25-year-old highlighted his aspirations for career progression, emphasizing the importance of not being solely viewed as a young academy graduate.
"Everything I knew was Chelsea, except for a few loan moves. But even now, I believe it was the right time to leave. I was prepared to take a step forward in my career; I didn't want to be perceived solely as a youngster or a player who had just emerged from the academy. It was time for me to explore new horizons," explained Abraham.
"Just before my departure from Chelsea, my close friend Fikayo Tomori joined AC Milan, and we had extensive conversations... I recall the phone calls vividly; neither could fathom what was happening. We had spent our entire lives at Chelsea, and suddenly, we were walking away."
Despite his departure, Abraham maintains strong relationships with numerous Chelsea players and other prominent figures from London clubs.
"I'm still in contact with many Chelsea players, and James always urges me to return," he further revealed.
"We grew up together and have known each other for years. Players like Mason Mount, Declan Rice, and Eddie Nketiah."
While it is understood that Abraham's former club, Aston Villa, remains optimistic about re-signing him, the striker is currently focused on ending the season on a high note with Roma, who find themselves halfway to the Europa League final.
"Winning something again with Roma would be fantastic, and who knows what the future holds?" Abraham pondered.
As the speculation surrounding Abraham's future intensifies, Chelsea fans will undoubtedly be intrigued by the possibility of their former academy star making a triumphant return. The potential reunion with Reece James, who has been advocating for his comeback, adds an extra layer of excitement for supporters.
Abraham's determination to establish himself as a prominent figure in European football has propelled him to seek fresh challenges outside his comfort zone. Whether his journey ultimately leads him back to Chelsea or presents an entirely different path, one thing is certain—Tammy Abraham is eager to make his mark on the footballing world, leaving a lasting legacy wherever he goes.
